Garuda’s Corporate Scheme Throughout The Years
Garuda Indonesia is a major international and domestic airline that has been the flagship of Indonesia’s airways for more than 50 years. 26 January 1949 is generally recognized as the airline’s founding date, at which time the airline was known as “Garuda Indonesian Airways.”Garuda Indonesia is the national airline of Indonesia. It is named after the mythical bird Garuda.
Early 1980s, Garuda began transferring domestic routes to one of its subsidiaries, Merpati Nusantara Airlines, also wholly owned by the government.
In 2008, Garuda Indonesia and all other Indonesian airlines were put onto the European Blacklist due to safety concerns. This came after a series of accidents and incidents in Indonesia involving aircraft owned and operated by Indonesian carriers, the main lead up to this was the crash of Adam Air Flight 574 and other accidents involving Adam Air.
On 10 June 2009, Garuda Indonesia revealed a new color scheme after 22 years of donning the current design.
